You'll see effective $/kWh, a WNY-oriented band, and illustrated headroom (not a promise) when the math supports it.
Why GridReady beats “bill shopping” hype
New York isn't Texas retail power. The win is usually clarity: split delivery vs supply, pressure-test ESCO rates, and make solar quotes prove their assumptions.
No membership fee
We’re not here to bill you monthly. Tools are free; you choose if you want follow-up help.
Faster than reading 40 ESCO PDFs
Start with one effective rate snapshot, then go deeper only where your bill looks off.
Consumer-side, not sales-side
We don’t earn installer spiffs. The goal is better questions and fewer surprises.
WNY utilities, not generic US averages
National Grid, RG&E, and NYSEG framing—so the notes match what you see on paper.
Solar quotes tied to real usage
If your bill math is off, your solar savings story is off. We connect the chain.
Next steps you can use today

Both are valid. GridReady compresses the first hour of confusion into a few numbers and links—then you stay in control.

How it works
- 1Enter your ZIP, amount due, and kWh from the same bill period so the effective rate is consistent.
- 2We label your all-in rate against a WNY-oriented band and explain what usually drives delivery vs supply.
- 3You use our free tools (or optional email follow-up) to pressure-test solar quotes and next steps—no checkout.
FAQ
Is this like Energy Ogre for Texas?
Not exactly. Texas has retail choice and plan shopping. Upstate NY is different: delivery is regulated, and supply may be utility default service or an ESCO. We help you read your bill, spot red flags, and sequence solar or upgrades without hype.
Will you switch my electricity plan?
No. GridReady WNY is education and advocacy tooling. We do not enroll you in contracts or take membership fees. Use the snapshot to ask better questions—then decide with your own paperwork.
What does the calculator estimate?
An all-in effective cents per kWh (amount ÷ kWh), a WNY-oriented band, and sometimes an illustrated annual headroom range when your rate looks elevated. It is not a guarantee of savings.
Why is my bill still high after solar quotes promise savings?
Because fixed charges, financing, and usage shape still matter. Start with financing and bill reality, then compare quotes with the same assumptions.
Do I need a PDF bill?
A recent bill is best because kWh and dollars are grounded in reality. If you estimate, treat outputs as directional only.
