What actually matters in Lockport
- Lockport is in NYSEG territory, not National Grid — which surprises a lot of people, because most of Niagara County is National Grid. It matters: NYSEG's Customer Benefit Contribution is $1.12 per kW-DC per month against National Grid's $0.69. On a 9 kW system that is about $46 a year more, every year, for the same array.
- It also means a different interconnection portal, a different outage map, and different rate structure than a Niagara Falls address fifteen miles west. Do not let a quote built on National Grid assumptions get applied to a Lockport roof.
- The city sits on the Niagara Escarpment. Homes on the upper side of the escarpment get more wind exposure than the canal-level neighborhoods.
The 30% federal solar tax credit is gone for direct purchases.
Section 25D — the Residential Clean Energy Credit — terminated for expenditures after December 31, 2025 under Public Law 119-21. If you did not have a system installed and operational by the end of 2025, it is not available to you. Signing a contract or paying a deposit in 2025 was not enough.
